Could you have prediabetes?
Take the 7-question Prediabetes Risk Test from the CDC and the American Diabetes Association. Your answers stay on this device. They aren’t sent or saved.
Your score: of 10
If you are African American, Hispanic/Latino American, American Indian/Alaska Native, Asian American or Pacific Islander, you are at higher risk for prediabetes and type 2 diabetes. If you are Asian American, risk goes up at a lower weight (about 15 pounds lower than the chart). Talk to your doctor about a blood sugar test.
This test is a screening tool, not a diagnosis. Only your doctor can tell for sure if you have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Risk Test provided by the American Diabetes Association and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention; adapted from Bang et al., Ann Intern Med 151:775-783, 2009.
What is prediabetes?
Prediabetes means your blood sugar is higher than normal, but not high enough yet to be diagnosed as type 2 diabetes. Only a blood test ordered by your doctor can tell for sure.
Can prediabetes be reversed?
Many people lower their blood sugar back to a normal range with changes to eating, activity and weight. A registered dietitian can build a plan around your foods and schedule.
Does insurance cover a dietitian for prediabetes?
Many plans cover nutrition counseling for prediabetes. Coverage depends on your plan, and we check your benefits before your first visit.
