Diabetes & Prediabetes Nutrition Therapy
Medical nutrition therapy with a registered dietitian is one of the most effective tools for lowering blood sugar. We help you understand carbohydrates, read your numbers and build meals that work with your culture and schedule.

Is this for you?
- You were just told you have prediabetes or type 2 diabetes
- Your A1c is rising despite medication
- You have type 1 diabetes and want help with carb counting
- You had gestational diabetes and want to lower future risk
- You eat a South Asian, Hispanic or other traditional diet and want guidance that respects it
How our dietitians help
Understand your numbers
We explain A1c, fasting glucose and post-meal readings, and use your meter or CGM data to see how specific meals affect you.
Plate method & carb awareness
You learn simple portion tools first. Carb counting is added when it helps, especially with insulin.
Meals you already eat
Rice, roti, tortillas and fruit can all fit. We adjust portions, pairing and timing rather than removing your favorite foods.
Coordinated with your doctor
With your permission we share progress notes with your physician so medication and nutrition work together.
What to expect
- First visit: your dietitian reviews your health history, labs, medications and eating habits, then you set 2–3 goals together.
- Your plan: a personalized plan with meal ideas, recipes and tools, shared in your Healthie portal.
- Follow-ups: regular check-ins, usually every week or every other week at first, to track progress and adjust.

Diabetes & Prediabetes: common questions
Does Medicare cover a dietitian for diabetes?
Yes. Medicare Part B covers medical nutrition therapy for diabetes and chronic kidney disease when your doctor sends a referral. Doctors can fax referrals to 866-850-2765.
Can prediabetes be reversed with diet?
Many people bring blood sugar back into the normal range with nutrition, activity and modest weight loss. Results vary, and we track your labs to measure progress.
How many visits will I need?
Most people start with an initial visit and 2–4 follow-ups over a few months. Your dietitian will suggest a schedule based on your goals and coverage.
Do you help with type 1 diabetes?
Yes. We support carbohydrate counting, insulin-to-carb ratios education and meal planning alongside your endocrinology team.
