Cost & coverage

How much does a dietitian visit cost?

For most of our patients, insurance pays for some or all of their visits. Here is how cost works, how to check your coverage, and your options if you're out of network.

Short answer: with insurance, you pay your plan's share (often a copay, sometimes nothing). Without insurance, we offer self-pay visits and packages. Call 678-250-3438 for current self-pay rates.

If you have insurance

We are in-network with 15 plans, including Aetna, Anthem Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, UnitedHealthcare, Humana and Medicare. What you pay depends on your plan:

  • No cost share: some plans cover nutrition counseling as preventive care.
  • Copay or coinsurance: a set amount or percentage per visit.
  • Deductible: you may pay the full insured rate until you meet your deductible.

Coverage can also depend on your diagnosis (for example diabetes, prediabetes, high cholesterol, PCOS or kidney disease) and how many visits your plan allows each year. We check your benefits before your first visit, and our billing promise protects you if your plan's answer changes.

How to check your coverage yourself

Call the member services number on the back of your insurance card and ask:

  1. Is medical nutrition therapy (codes 97802 and 97803) covered with a registered dietitian?
  2. Is it covered for my diagnosis? Do I need a referral or prior authorization?
  3. How many visits are covered per year?
  4. What will I pay: copay, coinsurance, or does it apply to my deductible?

Or use the quick coverage check on our insurance page.

Medicare

Medicare Part B covers medical nutrition therapy for diabetes and chronic kidney disease, and after a kidney transplant, when your doctor sends a referral. Visits for other conditions are self-pay under Medicare. Your doctor can fax the referral to 866-850-2765.

If you pay yourself (self-pay)

  • Self-pay visits and packages are available. Call 678-250-3438 for current rates.
  • HSA and FSA cards are accepted, along with credit and debit cards.
  • Out-of-network plan? We give you a superbill to send to your insurer for possible reimbursement.

What is not included

Lab tests and supplements are optional and paid separately. See lab testing and supplements.
